I view my work as a dynamic conversation between paint, construction, and accident. My paintings may be canvas or canvas-covered wood constructions that evolve organically while I paint, cut, saw, and shift parts around. So I start with an idea that quickly becomes irrelevant to the way the piece is going. I allow the piece to shape its own outcome. The mixed media collages on paper or aluminum evolve from combining unrelated cut-up painted paper parts to create unexpected image possibilities. I trust in chance and wait until the surprise happens.
